Animal Welfare Education Database (AWED)
Educators who wish to include concepts such as compassion and respect for animals in their lessons may need guidance and good quality animal welfare resources. It can be difficult for educators who are not familiar with teaching animal welfare to develop their own lessons and they may wonder how to begin. Many NGO’s have developed excellent teaching resources and ready-to-use lessons plans, but descriptions of these resources are often lacking.
It can be time consuming for non animal welfare educators to look for these resources. They may have to browse websites of different organisations separately, may not be aware that some organisations produce animal welfare materials at all, or that they can be obtained free or at low cost.
It would be helpful if educators could find materials quickly. Therefore it would be more efficient if information about animal welfare resources was included in an online library, accessible to all educators. This is why WSPA and World Animal Net (WAN) have developed the Animal Welfare Education Database (AWED).
What is the Animal Welfare Education Database (AWED)?
The database contains comprehensive descriptions of good quality animal welfare Education resources from around the world. The descriptions include educational level, aims and objectives, content, further information and details of where to obtain further information and ordering details. It is hoped that this will aid educators in their search for appropriate resources. It is not an online shop where resources can be purchased.
The database focuses on general animal welfare resources and materials. Advanced search options allow educators to find exactly what they are looking for without having to browse the entire World Wide Web.
